For over a decade, John Storie has been an active contributor to the jazz and classical music scenes of Portland, OR and Los Angeles, CA. As a founding member of such groups as the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra, Tyme Quartet, and New West Guitar Quartet, John has performed across the country and gained recognition as a leading figure among young musicians.
Over the years, he has been recognized by the Downbeat Student Music Awards, the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, Jazz Society of Oregon, Cascade Festival of Music, Guitar Foundation of America, and Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. In 2005, John was selected as one of 10 semi-finalists in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition.
His performances with the New West Guitar Quartet have taken him to Japan, Canada, and Germany. The NWGQ continues to be a driving force in the Los Angeles music scene and their current plans include more touring and a DVD release in 2008. In addition to New West Guitar Quartet, John currently performs with Renee Olstead, Sara Gazarek, and many other LA-based jazz musicians.
